When children and young people are unhappy, it can be relevant to work with a psychologist to explore what is troubling the child and you as parents. It is important to examine the child’s context and interaction with their surroundings to learn more about the complexities that exist, and it can also be helpful to examine more specific strengths and challenges in the child via specific psychological tests.

In conversations with both you parents and the child, we can look around the child and include their perspective. Psychological tests will be able to contribute more concrete information, such as cognitive profile in intelligence tests, so that you get an overall assessment and recommendations on how you can best support your child’s well-being.

Conversations with young people

NOTE

  • There must be a parental interview before any conversations with young people. Here I get your written consent, some background, and we can align expectations and process.
  • If there is a need for conversations between the parent and me, during, before or after, it must also take place within a clear framework such as booking a parent consultation.

Therapy with children 8-12 years old

Psychologist sessions with younger children are preceded by parent interview(s).

Play therapy can help children articulate their concerns and explore their needs so that we, as adults, can support their development.

The focus can be on developing your child’s ability to communicate, interact, problem solve and express their feelings. Activities can be structured or impromptu to provide opportunities to explore new ideas. The focus is on helping your child gain some insight into themselves and their relationships with others.

It can help your child to tackle different problems and increase their social and emotional skills and confidence. It can include the use of games, drawing, toys, creative expression and role play. In therapy, I can identify what your child needs and work with you to guide you to support your child. Play therapy can help children with various difficulties, including developmental disorders, anxiety, stress, social problems. Such a program is best suited for close collaboration with parents.

Frameworks for psychological examination of children and adolescents

PARENTS

Clarifying parent conversation or Parent counseling

During a clarifying conversation, we discuss your child or adolescent’s well-being both at school or daycare and at home, and assess whether a psychological examination may make sense. It may be that your child needs to be referred to psychiatry.

Parent counseling can be used without conducting a psychological examination.

If needed, another meeting can be arranged to clarify or elaborate on existing assessments from other locations.

1200 kr for 50 minutes per session.

With no children and only parents.

PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMINATION OF CHILD/ADOLESCENT

During the clarifying parent interview, you can assess whether there is a need for a psychological examination. The price for a psychological examination of children is 20,000 DKK.

During the clarifying conversation, you can also assess whether it makes sense to do a ‘smaller’ survey alone with a focus on uncovering cognitive resources with WISC-V. The price for this smaller package is 15,000 kr.
